Ha Long Bay — A Natural Wonder of Viet Nam

Ha Long Bay, located in Quang Ninh Province in northern Viet Nam, is one of the country's most famous natural wonders. In 1994, UNESCO recognised it as a World Heritage Site because of its outstanding natural beauty. The bay covers an area of about 1,500 square kilometres and has nearly 2,000 limestone islands and islets rising from emerald green waters.

According to an old legend, dragons came down from the sky to help the Vietnamese people protect their country. The dragons spat out jewels and jade, and these turned into the islands in the bay. That is why the place is called "Ha Long", which means "where the dragon descends into the sea".

Today, visitors to Ha Long Bay can enjoy many interesting activities. They can take a boat trip around the islands, go kayaking in quiet lagoons, or explore wonderful caves such as Sung Sot Cave, which means "Surprising Cave". Many tourists also visit the floating villages, where people live in houses on the water and earn their living by fishing and fish farming.

Every year, Ha Long Bay welcomes millions of visitors from all over the world. However, tourism also brings problems like water pollution and plastic waste. To protect this precious wonder, local authorities and tourists must work together. Tourists should not throw rubbish into the sea, and boat owners must follow strict rules to keep the water clean. If we all take responsibility, Ha Long Bay will stay beautiful for future generations.
