PART 3 — READING. Read the following passage and choose the best answer A, B, C or D for each question (21–25).
How Young People Are Making Cities Greener
In many large cities, concrete buildings and busy roads have replaced parks and green spaces. As urbanisation speeds up, residents find it harder to enjoy fresh air and quiet places to relax. However, a growing number of young people refuse to accept this as the price of city life. With the help of social media, they are launching green projects that are slowly changing the face of their neighbourhoods.
One popular idea is the community garden, where neighbours grow vegetables and flowers together on empty land or even on rooftops. These projects do far more than produce fresh food; they also bring people together. Elderly residents share their farming experience, while teenagers design posters and short videos to invite others to join. "When I posted a video about our garden online, more than fifty new volunteers signed up in a week," says Minh Anh, a 17-year-old student in Ha Noi.
Experts believe such projects matter for two reasons. First, plants help clean the air and lower temperatures in crowded areas, which improves public health. Second, the projects teach young people valuable skills, from planning and teamwork to using digital tools to spread a positive message. In this way, green living becomes a form of lifelong learning, as participants keep gaining knowledge long after they leave school.
Of course, challenges remain. Some gardens disappear when volunteers lose interest or when landowners decide to build on their empty plots. Supporters argue that local authorities should protect community gardens and include them in future development plans. If governments and citizens work together, the green movement started by teenagers today could help create the sustainable cities of tomorrow.
